A Pair of Chinese Embroidered Rank Badges.
Qing Dynasty.
A pair of silk embroidered square rank badges (Bupin) for a civil official, works in polychrome silk and wrapped threads on a dark indigo ground. Each panel centered with a majestic colorful bird, the wings extended in a poised stance above rolling waves and rocky outcrops, framed by stylized ruyi-head cloud scrolls and leu-fret border, the fine satin stitching, rich palette and use of wrapped thread reflect the high standard of court embroidery in Qing Dynasty.
Each size: 9 3/4 x 8 1/2 inch.

Condition: minor wear, some loose threads and slight fading commensurate with age.
