A Regency Silver Plate Epergne
A magnificent centerpiece, topped with a cut crystal bowl faceted with palmettes above a vasiform support cast with an anthemion band above wing spread swans and four scrolling candle arms supported on cast ram's heads joined by chain swags and a fluted support cast with perched eagles ending on a fluted spreading base with anthemion banding.
30in (76cm) h.22in (56cm) d.

During the Regency, dining was often 'à la française,' meaning all dishes for a course were placed on the table simultaneously for guests to serve themselves. The epergne helped to elevate and organize the food, saving space on the often crowded tables.
