In his series "Guardians" photographer Andy Freeberg has captured whimsical and poetic images of women who guard the art in the great museums of Russia. In 2008 and 2009 Freeberg shot 36 color photographs at Russian museums, including the Hermitage and Russian State Museum.
In this photograph the "Guardian" is looking after the Portrait of Maria Boschaert, the Flemish wife of Adriaen Stevens, Treasurer of Antwerp, painted in 1626 by the great portrait painter Antonius Van Dyck.
