Chinese Cloisonne Enamel Jardiniere
Late 19th Century
Of compressed lobed quatrefoil form, The exterior is decorated against a midnight blue ground with intricate scrolling lotus and stylized chrysanthemum blooms, set with two large circular medallions, each enclosing a front facing five clawed dragon in the shades of iron red and green, chasing a flaming pearl above stylized ocean waves on a light turquoise ground, the lobed rim is decorated with a band of polychrome floral reserved on a black ground. The vessel is raised on a fitted carved hardwood stand decorated with scrolling lotus and key-fret borders.

Height with base 7 3/4 inches (19.7 cm).

Condition report: Surface wear, scratches and scattered pitting to enamel, with localized hairline cracks and enamel losses. Wear and tarnishing to the metal rim and foot. A sizable dentation to one side. Interior with discoloration, staining, and patches of green oxidation. Wood stand with surface wear and minor abrasions. No obvious major repairs.
