All Marked Hand Painted, Bizarre, by Clarice Cliff, Newport Pottery England

Clarice Cliff was one of a very few women painters from the Staffordshire Potteries to become a decorator and design her own line
Clarice started work at the age of 13 in 'The Potteries'.
Producing her unique designs, based on her garden at Chetwynd House, Clarice was given her own studio. The famous 'Bizarre' wares launched in 1927.
The factory continued to produce pottery bearing Clarice's name until 1964.
Following Colley Shorter's death Clarice sells the factory to Midwinter's.

The first Clarice Cliff exhibition took place at Brighton in 1972 and Clarice provided comments for the catalogue.
