Federal Tall Case Clock, Jacob Sargeant (1761-1843) The arched hood surmounted by fret work and spire finials over a painted dial with Roman and Arabic chapter ring, signed Jacob Sargeant, Hartford with moon phase at the arch, subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, flanked by fluted quarter columns. The trunk with arched door inlaid with quarter fans above a box base inlaid with a central fan raised on ogee bracket feet 98in. (248cm) h. 16in. (41cm) w. 10 1/2in. (26cm) d. This clock's painted dial and carved case bears great similarity to other examples made by Sargents' contemporaries working in Massachusetts.
