Friedrich August Heberlein violins were made in Germany during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The name appears on factory-made instruments from workshops in Markneukirchen, rather than a single master luthier. The name was also used as a trade name by distributors such as the Wurlitzer Company. The quality of these instruments is generally high, offering a warm and clear tone that is often well-suited for advanced students and professionals. Many of these instruments are copies of designs by master luthiers like Stradivari or Guarneri.
