Inside Painted Glass Snuff Bottle 'Carps Among Aquatic Plants'
Signed Xi Wang, Yihuzhai Xinhai Year (1971).
A fine hexagonal crystal like glass snuff bottle, the interior superbly painted with a continuous scene of black and orange carps and fish swimming among lotus leaves, water reeds and pebbles. The composition executed in delicate gong brushwork with subtle ink washes and touches of color. Inscribed in four columns of elegant running script: "Xin Hai dong Mo xi wang zuo yu yihuzhai" - winter month of the Xinhai Year, made by xi wang at the one pot studio followed by one red seal. Surmounted by a latter fitted stopper.
Height: 2 1/2 in (6.4 cm).

Condition: overall in good condition with minor nibbles to edges. The stopper a later replacement. light surface wear consistent with age and handling.
Catalog note: The inscription and style place this bottle firmly within the circle of Wang Xisan (born: 1938), the preeminent master of 20th - century inside-painting and founder of the Hebei school. "Yihuzhai"-'one pot studio ' was his celebrated workshop in Beijing.
