Benjamin Franklin Washington was a journalist, w0founding the San Francisco Examiner, and a descendant of George Washington,
Redmond Gibbons established a railroad line in Oakland, and helped shape the early commercial landscape as a signatory for the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce in the 1860s
