Medieval Medical Illuminated Manuscript Page
Double Sided

With a gothic gilt framing of, Astrological Man, surrounded by celestial bodies to describe medical and astrological influence on the parts of the human body. The core principle of medical astrology, was the practice of associating specific body parts, diseases, and treatments with astrological signs and celestial bodies
Astrological Man depicted standing above a Jester representing Folly.
Flanked by panels in Latin.
At the corners illustrations of the four elements.

ON THE REVERSE;
A Medieval Choir Book cover with crowned Fleur de Lys over a heart inscribed AR.
Possibly originally a book belonging to King Louis IX of France, commonly known as Saint Louis (r. 1226–1270). The stylized lily, or fleur-de-lys, was the emblem of the French monarchy, and the monogram "AR" stands for Ave Regina, referring to the Virgin Mary. Louis IX was known for his piety and devotion to Mary, so this combination of symbols would be highly appropriate for a manuscript he commissioned.`
