Steinway M 224549 made in 1924

Action appears to be all original and there is moderate action noise from the hammer shank knuckles and whippen felts when played. There is no stiffness in the action and no evidence of verdigris in any of the parts. Key bushings are a little on the loose side but don't click. Hammers have very moderate wear indicating the piano did not receive much use.

The soundboard and bridges are in excellent condition.

Ivory key tops are in excellent condition. The mahogany finish is in very good condition with a few scratches.

Four agraffes have broken and been replaced; more may follow although none broke during the major pitch adjustment and tuning. Piano may have been restrung as it has number 3 tuning pins but there is also evidence that the plate was sprayed through the strings. In any case strings sounds good.

It is a West Coast piano as it bears a decal from Sherman and Clay, the San Francisco Steinway dealer which means it was not subjected to the intense temperature and humidity changes that occur back east .
