White Jade Ruyi Head Plaque
Late Qing Dynasty
Of large flattened form, the plaque is of lobed rectangular outline with rounded corners.
Carved in shallow relief with a scholar and attendant crossing bridge in a landscape scene, set beneath a pine tree beside rocky outcrops, with a distant pavilion. Fine incised detail typical of the Suzhou school. The stone is of an even, icy-white tone with excellent translucency and a soft, waxy luster.
5 in. (12.5 cm) width x 4 in. (10 cm) height 3/4 in.

Note: The substantial large size indicates it was carved from a significant boulder of high-quality Hetian nephrite.
