A Pair of Chinese Monumental Reverse Glass Painted Panels
Late Qing Dynasty to Republic Period ( Late 19th to early 20th Century).A pair of hardwood framed reverse glass paintings each surmounted by gilt seal script calligraphy of Shui - Longevity character in different styles. The central panels depict elegant court ladies engaged in refined domestic activities within a landscaped garden and palace setting, rendered in the traditional Cantonese export style reverse glass painting technique. The Lower panels are decorated with auspicious bogs ( antiques and scholar's objects) still life compositions including coral branches, archaistic bronzes, flowering plants and peaches, symbols of prosperity, longevity and scholarly refine taste.
Height( each panel): 63 in.(160 cm).
Condition: Overall in good condition with expected wear to the frames, scared surface scratches and minor losses consistent with age. Glass panes appear well preserved.
