Chinese Bronze Censer and Cover
The censer is heavily cast with a compressed globular body supported on three elephant-head feet and flanked by a pair of upward-curving elephant -head handles. The body is decorated with high relief with scrolling foliage motif. The pierced domed cover is surrounded by recumbent elephant supporting a vase form finial issuing stylized lingzhi, Ruyi and leafy scrolls. The interior of the vessel is incised with character possibly reading 'Da Ming Xuande Nian Zhi'.

Height: 20 in. (51.5 cm).

Condition: Overall with extensive surface wear, oxidation, and verdigris consistent with age and use. Casting laws, scattered losses, areas of corrosion, and possibly repairs. The incised interior mark is worn but partially legible.
