Large Chinese Spinach Green- Grey Hardstone Figure of a Mythical Beast
20th Century.
Powerfully carved from a single block of stone depicting a recumbent mythical beast, The stone shown mottled spinach green and grayish tone with russet and cream inclusions. The creature is rendered with a broad smiling impression, bulging eyes and robust body, sits on four legs with paws tucked under. The surface is incised with stylized cloud scrolls motifs. Set on a rectangle wooden base.The mythical beast probably resembling a Jin Chan Pixue, the golden toad.
Dimensions: Height: 7 in. (17.8 cm) , Long: 13 in. (33 cm)
