Two Chinese Jade Carvings
20th Century.
Comprising: First is carved fine white Hetian nephrite, depicting two intertwined gourds on a leafy vine, with a grass hopper perched at the top. The gourds are rendered with naturalistic curves and deep undercutting, giving a sense of volume. The stone is of an even, milky white tone with a soft waxy luster. fitted on a custom carved hardwood stand. Dimension: Height exclusive base 6 in. (15.2 cm). Condition: Excellent, carving crisp. Minor age related surface polish. no cracks or restoration.
Second is a lavender jadeite figure of Shoulao God of Longevity. He is shown standing, holding a gnarled peach wood staff in one hand and a peach in the other, with a young attendant at his side and accompanied by a flighting bat. The stone has natural lavender and gray mottling with good translucency. Dimension: height 3 3/8 in. (8.75 cm) Condition: excellent.
