Two Chinese Carved White Jade Ruyi Plaques
Qing Dynasty.
Comprising two finely carved white jade plaques of Ruyi scepters.
The larger plaque: Of elongated ruyi-head outline, worked in low relief with endless knot, Buddhist umbrella symbol and a large lotus bloom and leafy tendrils motif. The reverse is plain. The stone is a pale celadon white jade with natural russet inclusion to one side.
The smaller plaque: A pale celadon jade "Flaming Pearl" plaque, of irregular quatrefoil form, carved in low relief with a central eight petaled floral medallion representing a cintamani or wish fulfilling jewel. The jewel in encircled by radiating flames, a Buddhist motif known as Huoyan baozhu, symbolized as scrolling Ruyi clouds, merging Buddhist and Daoist iconography. The reverse is plain. The stone is of an even, pale white tone.
Both stones exhibit a soft, waxy luster characteristic of fine Hetian nephrite.
Dimensions: Larger: 4 1/4 inches (11 cm long). Smaller: 3 inches, (7.5 cm) wide.

Condition: Excellent condition. Minor surface abrasions and russet inclusions consistent with age. minor edge chips on the back sides, no repairs.
